Here, in a peaceful setting with lovely surroundings
that have remained unchanged for years, you'll find
it easy to simply make time for yourself and discover
some of the origins of Sicilian culture.
History Masseria
Susafa is owned and run by the Saeli-Rizzuto family,
who have owned and farmed the property for five generations,
carefully passing down their centuries-old, fascinating
country traditions.
Today, the owners invite guests to share that genuine
country life, the only modification being that the old-fashioned
austerity of the past has been carefully substituted
with all the comforts of a beautifully furnished, tasteful
holiday resort.
The swimming pool, built at a later stage, is located
in a superb location where our guests will be able to
enjoy the charming view of the hills.
This Masseria is a truly tranquil place where silence
meets relaxation. A genuine dive into the past!
Activity The best
way to spend your time at Susafa is in doing simple
things, as people once did, seeing around the area to
appreciate its beauty. During the summer, you can watch
the sheep being milked in the early hours of the morning,
and the ricotta being prepared.
Reading a book in the shade of the pine tree, surrounded
by the sound of crickets, picking ripe heads of grain,
watching the threshing or picking wild grasses and vegetables
is one of the best ways to spend the day. Also, our
consiergerie can organize excurtion in Etna or Palermo
and as well boat excurtion around the island. Sicily
is here just for you.
Weather Susafa is
900m from the sea level and the weather is different
from the Coast side. On the winter time temperature
can arrive in -2 very rare but give a magic sight. Can
you immagine the swon in Sicily? Here you can see it.
On summer time the sun is very warm and can arrive to
35°.
Location
Susafa’s central location in Sicily makes it easy to
visit the many historic sites and cities around the
island, reachable by car within an hour, such as: Palermo
, Cefalu (60 Km), the temples of Agrigento, the mosaics
of Piazza Armerina (88 Km), the villages of the Madonie
(Polizzi Generosa 10 Km, Petralia Soprana, Castelbuono,
Gangi), and the beautiful Sperlinga. Our main airport
are Palermo (110 Km), Catania (130 Km) and Trapani (260
Km).
Rooms
The Masseria comprises 13 rooms where comfort is assured
by the simplicity of its design with a hint of rural
atmosphere that will make every guest’s stay magical!
Inside the old barn there is an excellent restaurant
where Sicilian gastronomic culture meets the original
tastes of the earth, bringing out unique and enchanting
flavours.
Dining The
restaurant "Il Granaio" is a setting with extraordinary
character, having once been, as its name suggests, the
old granary of the farm. "Il Granaio" offers set or
alla carte menus based on Italian cuisine, but with
a special emphasis on the immense variety of local traditional
gastronomy. we use the very freshest ingredients, produced
by ourselves or locally, and selected personally by
the chef in order to guarantee products that are so
fresh, they were picked that morning.
Cookery courses
held at Susafa: "La cucina del contadino" - Take part
in making bread with the 'crescente', an old method
where the bread rises thanks to a piece of fermenting
dough kept from the day before.
A pleasant day is spent where you cook bread focacce
in the old wood oven, topping them in the traditional
way with olive oil, tomato and oregano or with fresh
ricotta (all the ingredients are produced on the farm).
The real enthusiasts can help with the morning preparation
of the ricotta, or with picking the oregano and tomatoes.
"La cucina di nonna Grazia" - This, on the other hand,
involves more complex preparations for those who wish
to understand the Sicilian culinary tradition a little
more in depth. During this course, you can take part
in preparing one or two antipasti (depending on degree
of difficulty), a first course, a main course and vegetables,
and a dessert, over a period of at least 3 days.
